With today’s announcement of the new Livescribe 3 smartpen range, you may be wondering about the status of the rest of the Echo and WiFi smartpens.
The Current Range
Livescribe now has three core options available – which option is best for you is discussed here on our site.
1. Desktop Model
The Livescribe Echo smartpen continues in our product range as our desktop model. The 2GB Echo smartpen is designed to be connected to a PC or Mac computer with notes and audio available via Livescribe Desktop. In Australia and New Zealand, the Echo smartpen is popular in both education and Government – where a simple solution orientated around a desktop is required.
I still use my original Echo smartpen when I go to meetings where I need to create Pencast content that I can share quickly and easily with my audience.
2. Cloud-Direct Model
The WiFi smartpen (formerly known as the Sky WiFi) utilises Evernote in the cloud to store your notes and audio. The 2GB, 4GB, and 8GB WiFi smartpens will continue in this model range. Evernote is an extremely popular content storage and collaboration tool – the WiFi smartpen is ideal for students, mobile workers, or those who want content to be available for use and sharing across many devices and platforms.
3. Mobile Companion
The Livescribe 3 smartpen has been introduced as a mobile companion for Apple devices that are both Bluetooth Smart compatible and operate on iOS7. This model is ideal for anyone who is a reasonably heavy user of the iPad or their iPhone. Your companion device (i.e. your iPad or iPhone) takes over some of the functionality found on the Echo and WiFi smartpens with the free app now providing additional capabilities in terms of what you can do with the content you’ve created.
