Livescribe Supports Creative Thinking

I had the opportunity to attend Gary Bertwistle’s 2 day workshop – Fire Up Your Mojo 2010 last this month. I know Gary through my membership of The Executive Connection where he is a well known speaker on marketing, brand, and mojo.

Gary’s also one of the leading advocates of creative thinking in Australia. As part of the workshop Gary gave everyone a unlined journal – he refers to them as a creative thinking journal.

This got me thinking about how I use my Livescribe Pulse Smartpen and it dawned on me that the Pulse Smartpen and our own unlined journals are a perfect example of how technology can support creative thinking in a natural, unobtrusive way.

The Livescribe Smartpen captures what a person writes and allows them to add audio if need be. So whether a user is drawing mind maps, brain storming, or simply making written and verbal notes, the Pulse Smartpen and pads capture this content. Importantly MyScript then allows a user to transcribe and share this content.

To support creative thinking, we’ve created a new bundled solution called the Livescribe Creative Thinking bundle. The pack will include a 4GB Livescribe Pulse Smartpen, a set of Creative Thinking Journals, and MyScript for Livescribe. Until the end of March, we’re also offering free shipping on this bundle.

If you’ve already got your Smartpen, you can purchase a set of Livescribe Creative Thinking Journals for $49.95.

Finally, if you want more information on how to embrace creative thinking, or to fire up your mojo – then visit Gary’s website or sign up for his Expresso newsletter.

Livescribe – Feedback from the field – or rather the kitchen

Livescribe – Feedback from the field – or rather the kitchen
Our customers share some great stories with us about how they use their Livescribe Pulse Smartpens. This is another great example of how the pen can be used.
Suzi Wong is an Adelaide based user who writes about her cooking and eating adventures. Suzi is also a full time student doing an honours research project on classroom management practices of beginning teachers.
Recently Suzi wrote about how her mothers’ decision to pass on her cookbooks to her got her thinking about how she could do the same for her daughters.
The solution for Suzi is her Livescribe Smartpen.

I’ve exchanged a number of Tweets with Suzi and her band of Twitter friends.

Livescribe Pencast Example

We’ve written before about the new Pencast feature available in the Livescribe Desktop. It’s a very cool feature as it allows you to create YouTube-like snippets of content and then share this out with your audience.

So if you’ve been wondering about Pencasts – could you use them in a learning environment? Watch this Livescribe Pencast as it’s a great example of how to use this feature.

Sigh…all we need now is integration to Microsoft OneNote and Apple Evernote…

Clarification of spiral bound notebook description

Filed under: Uncategorized — Mark Parker @ 9:25 pm

A new customer of Smartpen raised an issue with me about the wording of the name of the spiral bound notebooks on the Smartpen website. The concern raised was that the name of the product referenced the term “A4″ when the pads were not a true A4 size.

At the time of creating the products in the store a decision was made to use the term A4 so as to simplify how we describe the pads. At no time did we not provide detailed product information on the site. If you click on the product the detailed product information clearly states the pads are approximate A4 and the actual dimensions are listed.

So whilst the product details section outlined the fact that the pads weren’t true A4 and provided actual dimensions, the customer felt that the name of the product was misleading. We’ve taken these concerns seriously and amended the name of these two products on our site.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions about how our products are described or displayed.

Livescribe announced recently that version 1 of their Livescribe Desktop for MAC will be officially released on Feb 17 2009.

Livescribe has announced some very interesting features in the MAC version including:

  • Export and share your notes as PDF files locally from Livescribe Desktop.
  • Export audio files (in AAC format) separately from notes so you can play them back in iTunes.
  • Change the on-screen ink color of your digital notes.

Hmm, I’m assuming it won’t be long before these types of features are available in the PC version?

The new version will be available from Feb 17 (assume Feb 18 for us down here) via think link

Livescribe Stock Levels

Filed under: Uncategorized — Mark Parker @ 8:22 am

A number of Livescribe accessories are currently in short supply due to unexpected demand.

We have no ink refills or premium leather cases. We expect these products into stock in mid January.

The Smartpen website currently shows these products in stock with any orders being placed on backorder.

Finally, we’ve discontinued supply of the Livescribe 1GB for the time being. The Livescribe 2GB has been selling exceptionally well, but we haven’t seen any significant demand for the product and with the Australian Dollar continuing to be weak against the US Dollar, we’re focusing on the 2GB and the full range of Livescribe accessories.
